Going ‘outside the box’ to explain different symptoms in people with the same DNA deletion syndrome

Even when genetic conditions can be clearly traced to a root cause in the DNA, how those conditions present can vary. A team from the International 22q11.2 Deletion Syndrome Brain Behavior Consortium (IBBC), led by SickKids, discovered they needed to look outside the genetic root cause of the disorder to find out why. Researchers say these findings could pave the way for targeted, individualized care.
