Olugbenga Akinkugbe

Project Investigator, Child Health Evaluative Sciences

Dr. Olugbenga Akinkugbe is an Intensive Care Physician in the Department of Critical Care Medicine. He received his medical degree at the University of London (UK), and completed specialty training in paediatrics and paediatric critical care medicine at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and Cambridge University Hospitals.

Alongside clinical training he gained a diploma in Paediatric Infectious Diseases at the University of Oxford before moving to Toronto to complete a fellowship in Critical Care Medicine at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids).

Having gained a Masters in Ethics and Law at Keele University, Akinkugbe advocates for ethical reflection in clinical care and clinical research.

Research

Akinkugbe's research interests focus on using clinical data to understand how organ systems are affected when children have serious infections (also called sepsis and septic shock) to which end he is undertaking a PhD in Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Toronto. His research program aims to enhance tools used to describe organ system function, to better understand and treat critical illness in children.
