Biography

Dr. Stevens oversees and directs the Nursing Research Portfolio at SickKids. Her research focuses on preventing and treating pain from skin-breaking procedures in hospitalized infants through the implementation of novel e-heath web-based strategies to change health care professional pain assessment and management practices. She supports nursing research through building capacity of nursing research trainees, mentoring staff, providing interprofessional collaboration and completing scientific reviews. Bonnie also works with colleagues in the Learning Institute on developing evaluation and quality improvement strategies for advanced nurses in clinical practice and education.

Dr. Bonnie Stevens also researches the assessment and management of pain in hospitalized preterm newborn infants, and the effectiveness of knowledge translation (KT) strategies for changing clinical outcomes.  

She is the Principal Investigator of a Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Foundation Grant (2016-2023) that focuses on the development, implementation, and evaluation of a web-based, seven-step resource for changing health care professional pain practices. She is currently conducting a large national trial to determine the effectiveness of this website resource in improving child outcomes.
